Gardening in Hunting Ridge

We are privileged in Hunting Ridge to have a climate that is conducive to gardening. Azaleas grow exceptionally large in our area and most residents have landscaped beautiful gardens in their yards. The Hunting Ridge Community Assembly sponsors a Yard-of-the-Month program where a panel of judges (residents) surveys the neighborhood for the yard that best represents the season.

Besides gardening in our own yards, we have gardeners who work on public gardens that benefit others for enjoyment and education. A group of gardeners called the Happy Diggers joins with children at Thomas Jefferson Elementary and Middle School to work on their school gardens and a nature walk.

We also have an adopt-a-rock program where many families have claimed one of the rocks, which are more like boulders, that lie along Winans Way and Briarclift along the edge of the park. Beautiful gardens have been sprinkled around these rocks to bring joy to travelers passing through our neighborhood. Many local gardeners also join with the neighboring community of Ten Hills for the benefit of the National Garden Club.
